Earlier in the year, Morehouse College chose not to renew the contract of then President John Silvanus Wilson. Since that decision, the college has struggled trying to find new leadership. The college announced William Taggart as the interim President shortly after Mr. Wilson’s departure. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, William Taggart passed away shortly after being appointed interim-President of the college. The college then proceeded to announce Harold Martin, jr (son of President Harold Martin, Sr of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University) as interim-President. The college aspired to find a permanent solution to the presidency crisis by December. Morehouse College recently announced Dr. David Thomas as the 12th president of Morehouse College. Dr. Thomas is the former dean of the Georgetown School of Business. The President-Elect asserted he has many objectives he wants to fulfill as president of the college, including: raising enrollment, and providing more scholarship dollars. Dr. Thomas aspired to attend Morehouse College after graduating high school, however, could not do so due to financial circumstances. He chose to attend Yale University instead. President-Elect Thomas is no stranger to raising money. While at Georgetown, the school of business exceeded the $100 million dollar fundraising goal by $30 million dollars. President Thomas hopes to give Morehouse that same commitment, and progress.
Earlier in the year, the Morehouse College Board of Trustees decided not to renew the contract of former President John Silvanus Wilson. Morehouse College later on announced that William "Bill' Taggart would assume the duties of interim-president. However, Mr. Taggart passed away suddenly a few months after due to a brain aneurysm. Since the passing of Mr. Taggart, Morehouse College has been in search of an interim-president to assume the day-to-day responsibilities. It is with great joy that we announce that Morehouse College has appointed Harold Martin, Jr. as the next interim-president of Morehouse College. Mr. Martin graduated from Morehouse with a business administration degree, as well as an MBA from Harvard University and a law degree from Yale University. He will immediately take over the leadership responsibility of the college.
