SUMMARY OF DUTIES: The Senior Director, IT Strategy & Planning is directly responsible for the IT strategy and planning of Amtraks Marketing and Product Management (M&PM) business applications portfolio. The position works very closely with the M&PM senior management and staff to define, plan and oversee the delivery of technology solutions that will support the units business operations and objectives.
The incumbent will work at a strategic level to identify the optimal long-term technology solutions in support of the M&PM department while also balancing the need to deliver near-term business solutions. The position will supervise full-time staff members, contractor employees, and contracted services and should have strong subject matter expertise (both business and systems) in the areas of Marketing, Sales, CRM, On-board Systems, and Distribution strategy and channels (ecommerce, kiosk, contact center, etc).
EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in Business Management, Information Systems, Technology Management, etc or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Masters degree preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE: *Extensive experience in collaborating with business partners on new ideas/efforts in identifying, documenting and communicating high-level requirements and potential IT Business Solutions.
*Extensive experience in business technology strategy and planning with exposure to various technical environments and business segments.
*Strong experience in IT investment and portfolio planning, management and coordination (including business case development and benefits tracking).
*Extensive experience in large-scale, complex and multi-million-dollar business and technology project management.
*Some experience in business and technology project portfolio planning and management.
*Some experience in marketing management and operations, including direct marketing and partnership development and support.
*Demonstrated experience in operational management and oversight of mission-critical applications and systems.
PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE: Project Management Professional (PMP).
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: *Demonstrated ability and experience in business-focused IT strategy and roadmap development (including Business Architecture Planning).
*A strong team- and customer-focused IT leader with a demonstrated ability to manage a significant business applications function in a complex business environment.
*Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across complex organizations and partner with internal and external stakeholders to meet business goals.
*In-depth knowledge of best practices and trends of IT and business industry, especially in marketing and sales.
*Proven ability to work well with others and influence a broad spectrum of constituencies, achieving outcomes through influence rather than direct authority.
*Strong leadership and interpersonal skills characterized by compassion but tempered by focus and discipline.
*Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
*Strong ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining a positive, can-do attitude and a willingness to do whatever it takes to get things done.
*Very strong business acumen w/ experience in an Airline and/or Travel-related industry a plus.
*Highly proficient and experienced using business tools including, MS Office (particularly Project, Access and Excel) and database querying and reporting tools (Brio, Business Objects, etc.); web/internet, client-server and mainframe system experience a plus.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: *Proven ability to bridge the IT and business gap and build and maintain strong relationships of trust with business partners and collaborate on planning and managing IT Business Solutions.
*A strong team- and customer-focused IT leader with a demonstrated ability to manage a significant business applications function.
OTHER FUNCTIONS: *Coordinates and supports the development of IT solutions that are effective and cost-efficient within assigned portfolio including: marketing and sales; customer service; market research & analysis; operations support; sales distribution (reservation sales and support, call center systems, pricing & revenue management); product management and on-board (food & beverage, train communications and customer service); channels (Amtrak.com, ticket counters, call centers, kiosks, travel agents/global distribution systems); revenue and station accounting. *Collaborates with the Marketing and Product Management Department to develop a strategic plan for applications in support of the departments long term business strategy and goals as part of the enterprise architecture, revising and updating the plan as required to maintain its relevance to the organization and its business; *Collaborate closely with the Chief Architecture Officers senior staff to develop and implement an enterprise blueprint for the Company's long-term data and systems architecture; *Coordinate with the Program Management Office (PMO) to ensure efficient management of projects across all functional organizations
